A grand farmhouse in the rolling hills of the Yarra Valley

An easy hour’s drive from Melbourne, the Yarra Valley is Victoria’s best-known wine region. Amongst its rolling countryside and surrounding ranges, you’ll find The George at Yering Estate; a gorgeous farmhouse big enough for you and all your favourite people, just paces from Yering Wines and its cellar door.

Set on 120-acres of orchard and vines, the idyllic scenery is the first thing to impress. Curling up the long drive, the homestead sits proudly amongst this lush greenery. Limestone walls, recycled timber turrets, and a slate gray roof come together to create an edifice that can only be described as elegant.

The free flowing living, dining and kitchen area is an inviting place to settle in and catch up over your complimentary bottle of ‘The George’. The formal dining room is fabulous for entertaining – you’ll want to gather up plenty of local produce and put on a gourmet feast for you and the crew. Say cheers to a fun and relaxed winery retreat, because here, that’s what’s in store.

There’s history in this home’s walls; with timber floors restored from what was originally the estate’s cool-store, and stained glass windows rescued from ‘Grandma’s house’. Exposed timber beams, soaring vaulted ceilings and an open fire add to the warmth of its character. There’s plenty of room to spend time together, or timeout on your own. The sunroom is a peaceful spot to sit back with a cup of tea (or a wine, as the case maybe) and the library has a window seat overlooking the garden that’s perfect for some quiet contemplation.

When it’s time to rest, all six bedrooms are lavishly appointed. And if you can snag the mezzanine level master, you’ll be privileged to your own ensuite and spa, plus sweeping valley views.

Besides extensive and beautifully landscaped grounds, outside, you have a saltwater pool for summer swims (a great way to wake up from afternoon naps) and a Jacuzzi to pile into on winter nights. Included with your stay is a ‘pruners platter’ to enjoy at the cellar door, so be sure to wander over and say hello when you arrive. Private barrel tastings with the winemaker and private tours of the Valley can be arranged, providing a personal experience of the region with lots of local know.

Close to all the Yarra Valley has to offer – award-winning wineries, restaurants serving farm-fresh produce, regional arts, boutique wares and a breathtaking landscape – this home is a wonderful base.
