Century-old homestead at the gateway to the Mornington Peninsula

This century old homestead has been transformed into a breathtakingly beautiful stay, presenting provincial luxe at its very best. Let your stresses melt away at this magnificent manor nestled at the entrance to the Mornington Peninsula.

Pass the gates to be led up a long drive lined with the poplars that inspired this home’s name. On arrival to your abode you will note authentic features such as the corrugated façade of a barn, stables and gated greens. There are even facilities for you to bring your own horse and have a trot if you please. Step through the doors and you will be met with freshly painted timbers in cream and duck egg blue, decorative stonewalls, luxurious home wares and wide-windows with a lovely green outlook. By merging original elements with elegant design, this home achieves both peerless character and polished charm. There is also a sweet little shack on site that can be utilised to service a larger crowd. An old barn converted into a cottage stay, this space has everything required to be completely self-sustained.

With three acres of garden to explore, it will be easy to find yourself a peaceful patch. Or instead choose the decking that wraps around the house with its multiple seating areas… you could play musical chairs here for the prize of remaining swathed in sunshine all day long. Warm yourself beside the glimmering infinity pool with its spectacular views over the paddocks. Prepare a picnic of Red Hill cheeses and bottles of bubbly, and head for a hit of croquet with stay companions out on the lawn. Complete the day’s activities by foraging for herbs in the garden and whipping up a roast big enough for the crowd, and then recline next to the open fire in a well-fed stupor.

While the lavish comforts and sprawling lawns of this retreat could easily absorb you, you do have a number of options if you feel like venturing out. The town of Tyabb is famous for its array of antique treasures, arguably one of the largest troves in Victoria. Journey a little further and you will hit the hub of the Mornington Peninsula, with its woody beaches, delicious produce and excellent wine region. Highlights amongst the wineries include oaky Chardonnays at Paringa Estate and mouthwatering courses at Ten Minutes by Tractor. Pad your feet on soft sand and take a dip at the patrolled beach just 15 minutes from your stay. Or if you'd rather keep dry, you could join the lively crowds at the Red Hill Market 20 minutes drive from your lodging. Search out some tasty local treats on the trail, and take them back to your divine new digs to enjoy.
