Country estate set among rolling Gippsland vineyards

Property reviewed by Stephanie Mikkelsen

Ever wanted to know what it might be like to live on a sprawling country estate? What about on a working winery? You can have a taste test of just that with a sojourn to Toms Cap Vineyard Retreat, a unique property set on 100 acres of vineyards and grazing pastures. Located at the eastern end of the Strezlecki Ranges in Central Gippsland, Toms Cap is a working vineyard where the peace of the country meets the buzz of an urban bolthole.

The property has four accommodations: the brand-spanking-new Beaumont Lodge; two luxe cottages, The Chapel and the Black Dog; and a one-bedroom cottage, The Nest. Inside each accommodation you’ll find a contemporary and luxe décor that’s comfortable and warm. For groups or families seeking a weekend of winery-hopping and country exploring, the four-bedroom lodge is your go-to. Perched on the crest of a hill, the Lodge has views of the neighbouring dairy farms and the Mullundung State Forest. The lodge’s generous timber verandah makes the perfect perch to dine alfresco and enjoy a glass of Toms Cap wine as you watch the sun set. In fact, each of the accommodations has its own outdoor space, so you won’t miss out on those views wherever you stay.

The estate boasts two restaurants and a Cellar Door, so you won’t be stuck for dining options. If you fancy yourself a would-be masterchef, each of the accommodations comes complete with a fully equipped kitchen.
