As one of Australia’s oldest hill stations, Cameron Lodge property dates back to 1886 when it was established as a country retreat for the wealthy. The spacious four-bedroom cottage has a simple yet luxurious country style. Rustic furnishings in natural tones calm the mind and set the tone for a relaxing holiday. Snuggle up in front of the wood fire or take in some fresh mountain air on the deck.
Perhaps the best part about staying at Cameron Lodge is the 10 acres of private gardens that surround the cottage. Designed in the Romantic style, these colonial gardens have been lovingly maintained and hold botanical, horticultural and historical significance. Wander along the rambling paths and discover heritage trees, a gentle mountain river and the Roman-inspired Temple of the Winds. Careful design as well as Mount Macedon’s ideal climate means that the gardens flourish year-round. From tea parties in the 1920s to quirky music videos in the 21st century (see Gossling’s Harvest of Gold), this historic estate has seen it all.
Just down the road from Cameron Lodge is the popular Mount Macedon Trading Post cafe and a gallery where you can view exhibitions by local artists. Venture outside Mount Macedon Village for a picnic and a bushwalk at Hanging Rock or Sanatorium Lake.
