If you can’t make it to Tuscany this year, take a foodie pilgrimage to the Italian-influenced King Valley instead. And for an indulgent weekend where all the best dining, drinking and activities are right on your doorstep, you can’t go past Lindenwarrah.
The setting of this boutique hotel is both romantic and serene. Surrounded by gnarling vines, rolling ranges, and snow-capped peaks in winter, the scenery alone is worth travelling for. Follow the long driveway to arrive at a series of understated, elegant suites; all promise peaceful sleeps under luxurious sheets and dreamy vineyard views. Once you’ve dropped your bags and gotten a good helping of that clear High Country air, you’ll switch into a different gear. Here it’s all about taking it slow. Slow food, drawn-out meals, long walks and meandering cycles around the countryside are just some of what’s in store.
There’s so much to do here, and it’s all designed for you to quiet down and refresh. Sleep late, and wander to a gourmet breakfast whenever you’re ready. The onsite dining is some of the best in the region – utilising the freshest local ingredients, and giving you a little taste of everything without needing to seek it out. Blue Ox Berries, Walkabout Apiaries Honey, Beechworth Apple Juice, Milawa Cheese & Bakery are just a few of the items you’ll enjoy. In summer, wake up with a swim before walking to Brown Brothers Epicurean Centre, where you can settle in for a long lunch with matching wines or kickback casual for a flight and tapas. In winter, warming meals and bottles of red will appeal, but perhaps you’d prefer them curled up in front of the guest lounge fire, or cosy inside the restaurant taking in alpine views through the glass.
You could easily spend your entire time onsite with no need to leave. You’d simply hop between cellar door samplings, the three separate dining options, poolside hangs, afternoon naps, and bottles of prosecco shared on the terrace. But if you are keen on getting out and about, Milawa has plenty to offer curious travellers. A fun way to experience the region’s food and landscape is to ‘pedal to produce’. Neighbouring Brown Brothers lends bikes to guests free of charge, allowing you to cycle across the scenic countryside from coffee to pastry, cheese to wine, pub to pizza, and deli to dine on your finds back at your sweet retreat.
