If Mad Men included a country house, Westgate would be it. Think classic 1950s architecture, a retro vibe, enormous rooms and plenty of space on a 700-acre working vineyard and farm in the heart of Victoria’s Great Western district. But that’s not all - what absolutely blew us away was the incredible views.
Westgate is perched atop a ridge - to the east is a magnificent outlook over bushland and vineyards to the Pyrenees, while the west features even more impressive vistas that stretch to the Grampians.
Westgate takes advantage of its coveted position. Everything is designed to drink in those views, from the formal dining room and huge lounge area, the beautiful terraced gardens in front of the house, the inviting ash-shaded side garden and even the solar-heated pool has an enviable position.
With comfortable accommodation for up to 12, the idea is to gather your best friends and family and make it a getaway to remember. You could explore the region - perhaps a day trip to the Grampians, or visit the region’s numerous cellar doors. Our advice though is to do that before you arrive at Westgate. Once there, the temptation will be to simply relax and enjoy the house, those views, perhaps a game of petanque and a bottle or two of local wine.
