There are so many great reasons to visit our island state. You can spend time soaking in the world’s cleanest air. Visit the out-of-this-world galleries. Drink fine wine, whisky and beer. Sight the breathtaking natural attractions (with around twenty percent of the state classified as World Heritage). And with all that unspoiled land, you know you’ll be dining on the best, freshest produce around. Adding to this long list of temptations is an award-winning, architect-designed beauty with incredible water views – the COAST HOUSE. If you weren’t convinced before, this place proves a covetable destination in itself.
Just an hour from Hobart’s myriad happenings and several of the south coast’s heavy hitters – like the Tahune Airwalk and Hartz Mountain National Park – the location promises its own microcosm of greenery, mirror-still water and seclusion, while still being within easy reach of the action. Perched on a private peninsular at the point where the Huon River and Port Cygnet intersect, stepping onto this 15-hectare estate inspires a sigh of relief. Once your bags are down you’ll want to stay a while. And fortunately for you, the freezer is stocked with gourmet meals from the Salamanca Wursthaus Kitchen, and the fridge with fresh vegetables and a selection of other local delights, so there'll be no need to go searching for supplies.
The layout of this home and the landscape surrounds are oh-so-romantic, stunning and secluded with no other dwelling in sight. The rich, warm décor, the exposed timber beams, the walls of glass capturing golden fields rolling away to the water, they all speak of special times with your special someone. When it’s cold you can curl up by the fire with glasses of regional wine, snuggle up in a super comfy bed, soak in a nice warm bath, and whip up feasts of fresh produce in the breezy kitchen – all alongside those astounding views. When the weather is fine, you’ll relish sitting back in the sun and sea air, exploring the huge, hay-bale-covered grounds, and dining on the deck.
With such a uniquely beautiful haven, it will be hard to get out the door. And besides, you have activities right at your front door! – With plenty of ground to cover and surrounding waterways to kayak. But if you are up for travelling further afield you’re well placed to do so. It’s just a short twenty-minute trip to the Bruny Island Ferry, which will deliver you to coastal trails, refreshing swims, slurping oysters, sampling cheeses, and sipping wines. It’s easy enough to visit the village of Cygnet for a coffee, a browse around the shops, and a look at local art just 10-minutes away, but if you’re after a really special dining experience, travel 10-minutes more to Peppermint Bay. This restaurant is set on four-acres of waterfront headland, and sources its ingredients from onsite gardens, local farmers, anglers and artisans to create dishes true to the area and the seasons. OR, do all your sightseeing on the road from Hobart to Cygnet, so once you’ve arrived, you can stay put and make the most of this spectacular home. Your call.
