Luxury, Romantic and Boutique Accommodation in Bicheno

A seaside town home to fine East Coast treasures.
Take some time off with a getaway to Bicheno, a sleepy East Coast town

Bicheno is an East Coast jewel; it has something for everyone. Located just north of Freycinet Peninsula, Bicheno is a popular spot for drivers moving along the East Coast from Hobart to Launceston. Originally settled as a hub for sealers and whalers in the area, Bicheno has grown into a charming seaside town that is particularly popular with families and roadtrippers.

Dedicated divers should remember to pack their wetsuits and flippers, because Governor Island Marine Reserve is located just off the shore and is touted as having some of the best dive sites in Australia. Those unfamiliar with oxygen tanks and pressure regulators won’t have to miss out either and can instead join a glass-bottomed boat tour. Snorkellers can make for Waub’s Bay. Wildlife encounters can be had on dry land at East Coast Natureworld, and excursions to watch fairy penguins waddle up the beach at dusk are popular. Tours to spot Tasmanian devils are also available out of Bicheno. Venture to Rocking Rock, a precariously-perched slab of granite that moves with the tide. Follow the signposts south of town to find the rock and visit the town's famous Blowhole while you're here too. Be wary of getting too close though: unexpected waves have drenched surprised travellers in the past. For walkers and scenery-savants, Douglas Apsley National Park beckons with native forests, dramatic lookouts and waterfalls. Freycinet National Park is further south and makes a stunning day trip destination.

Foodies can match up their East Coast getaway with the Bicheno Food and Wine Festival. Held every November, the festival is a celebration of the region's gourmet credentials. Further afield, the East Coast is scattered with producers and farms where visitors can taste and sample the region's delicious fare. There are plenty of opportunities to buy treats, so you can stock the boot of your car and prepare the gourmet goodies in the kitchen of your Bicheno accommodation.

On that note, accommodation options in Bicheno are just as diverse as its attractions, with eco-friendly chalets, campsites and self-contained apartments all available. There are places to suit relaxed holidays with family, a romantic getaway for two or a trip with friends.
