On Our Last Getaway:

I was almost giddy with anticipation as we pulled into the drive of this modern McLaren Vale marvel, and I could not wait to discover the house for myself. After all, there are some things even the best photography can’t do justice to and the lavish grandeur of Luxe Haus is one of those things.

From its fit-out to its beachfront location, everything about this house is extravagant. I’m sure my eyes were as big as dinner plates as I walked, jaw agape, inside for the first time. I was comforted by the thought that Tania, Luxe Haus’ manager who greeted us on arrival, had surely seen the same star-struck expression many times over. And while Luxe Haus delivers on flashy first impressions, thought has been given to smaller conveniences too: hair straighteners in bathroom vanities, coffee beans ground to order, doors without handles that open with a light push, and a dumbwaiter to ferry dishes between floors.

One of the most spectacular aspects of Luxe Haus – and there are many to choose from – is its ability to go above and beyond. We were lucky enough to be treated to an amazing three-course dinner, courtesy of one of the local chefs in Tania’s black book of contacts. This luxe extra is available to guests too, as is the option for fully cooked breakfasts, limousine tours and trips to Kangaroo Island, and even skydiving.

What To Expect:

A luxury getaway that makes your jaw drop is good, but one that leaves you speechless is even better and luckily, Luxe Haus manages to do both. This magnificent mansion on the Moana beachfront has A-lister good looks, making it feel as though it should double as a set for Hollywood blockbusters or slick music videos.

Luxe Haus embraces the contemporary, flaunting a design that is all gleaming polished surfaces, high-tech wizardry and mammoth floor-to-ceiling windows that connect guests with breath-taking views of the Moana shoreline. Waste no time unpacking when you arrive – that can be done later. Instead get to know Luxe Haus by moving over to one of the tech pads embedded into the walls, familiarising yourself with which controls turn on the 20-person spa, what to press to close blinds and how to turn on the underfloor heating.

Cutting-edge style isn’t limited to technology at the Haus; the villa’s interior design is just as high-end. A moody, dark colour palette amps up the dramatic nature of Luxe Haus and two vivid gallery-worthy works steal the spotlight on the first and second floors. A glass-cased elevator glides between levels and TVs magically drop down from the ceiling when you’re ready to watch Netflix or Stan. The included use of sea kayaks and stand-up paddle boards prove that this is a getaway not just content with impressing its guests on a style level; this is a house where meticulous thought has been put into a guest’s whole experience.

So what will your experience at Luxe Haus look like? It might be you committing every angle of the villa to your smartphone’s camera roll, so you can remember Luxe Haus long after you check out. You may not move too far from the swinging egg chair on the top ocean-facing deck, only getting up to fetch another latte macchiato or espresso from the state-of-the-art coffee machine or to open a bottle of local McLaren Vale wine. Daily soaks in the spa will likely be on the agenda, as will tinkling on the grand piano, taking out a jet ski or cosying up by the fireplace. Whichever you choose, your getaway to Luxe Haus is guaranteed to be unforgettable.

Luxe Haus makes glittering setting for functions or events, and the villa comes complete with a fully-equipped commercial-grade kitchen. In-house dining and private chefs can be arranged, and there is also on-site accommodation for staff.

Editor's Pick:

Luxe Haus lives up to its name. But it is more than just a house; it is a luxe experience and there is no better place to soak it all in than submerged in one of the freestanding bathtubs that sit in the corner of each bedroom.

Eat, See, Do

It is hard to go anywhere in McLaren Vale without hearing about the just-opened Cube at d’Arenberg. The striking Cube has been designed to challenge a visitor’s expectations of the winemaking process and a ground-level museum invites visitors to get up close with interactive installations. Visitors that dine at one of d’Arenberg’s eateries – d’Arry’s Verandah or the eponymous fine-dining option – receive free entry to the Cube. Other visitors must pay a $10 entrance fee. Match up your visit to d’Arenberg by swinging past other acclaimed cellar doors in the region, such as Alpha Box & Dice, Kay Brothers, Angove and Chapel Hill. And in keeping with McLaren Vale’s wine clout, don’t miss cycling or walking a section of the Shiraz Trail.

Away from the vines, McLaren Vale has kilometres of stunning shoreline to explore. Moana Beach is only metres from Luxe Haus, and other beaches worth a visit include Sellicks, Aldinga, Maslin and Port Noarlunga. Join a horse-riding tour along one of these pretty stretches, or pack up towels, SPF and a good book and pencil in a dedicated beach day. Some beaches also allow cars to be driven right out onto the sand. For less sandy pursuits, the Onkaparinga River National Park is brimming with walks and hikes.

When you’re looking to fuel up after a day in McLaren Vale, nab a table at The Currant Shed, Star of Greece, Red Poles, The Barn Bistro, Penny’s Hill and The Salopian Inn.

Walking distance to Moana beach. 13 minutes’ drive to Aldinga Beach. Less than 20 minutes’ drive to McLaren Vale cellar doors, restaurants and wineries. 40 minutes’ drive from Adelaide.
