A dream house for nature lovers

Property reviewed by Stephanie Mikkelsen on Tuesday, December 13, 2016

Dolphin is a nature-lover’s dream house. It sits on 70 acres of low lying bushland, boasts panoramic coastline views, and has a power system that runs totally on solar and wind energy. Dolphin’s design means it is cool in summer and cosy in winter.

The house has five bedrooms, including two rooms with sets of bunk beds. It's an ideal escape for families and groups of friends. A modern kitchen and open living/dining area make for comfortable living, but don’t be surprised if you find yourself heading outside to get your kicks. Venus Bay is an almost totally landlocked bay, where budding anglers can cast a line off the jetty for trevally, tommy ruff, garfish, squid and mullet. Head out onto the open waters to catch whiting and flounder, but keep your fingers crossed for a bite from salmon, flathead or snapper. Take your ocean-fresh catch back to Dolphin and the upstairs dining area. This space comes complete with a small kitchen and barbecue (plus a ping pong table), so it's excellent for group meals and watching the sun set.

Join the South Head Walking Trail at Venus Bay to see pods of dolphins, Australian sea lions, sea eagles and even Southern Right Whales. Other scenic sights include Point Labatt Sealion Loop, Murphy’s Haystacks, Talia Sea Caves and Venus Bay Conservation Park. Of course, if you do want to stay closer to home, there is plenty to explore on the Dolphin property. To reach Venus Bay, fly into Port Lincoln and pick up a hire car to make the rest of the coastal two-and-a-half hour drive.
