Luxury, Romantic and Boutique Accommodation on Hamilton Island

There are island paradises – and then there is Hamilton Island.
Get to know the white-sand beaches and luxury accommodation on Hamilton Island

With wide stretches of palm-fringed beaches, calm turquoise water and various luxurious accommodation options, it’s no surprise that Hamilton Island is one of Australia’s most popular (and most photographed) island destinations. It’s the biggest of a group of 74 tropical islands just off Airlie Beach in Queensland, known as the Whitsundays, and is also the only island in the group with a commercial airport. You can fly directly in to Hamilton Island via a connecting flight through Brisbane, making it closer to home than you think. Add in luxury Hamilton Island accommodation and the idea of an island getaway becomes even more tempting.

Set on the edge of the world heritage-listed Great Barrier Reef and surrounded by vibrant marine life, Hamilton Island is the ideal spot for snorkelling, diving, sea kayaking, sailing, game fishing and scenic helicopter flights. It’s also just 30 minutes by high-speed catamaran to the beautiful Whitehaven Beach, a seven-kilometre stretch of pure white sand and crystal-clear water that has been named Australia’s best beach by TripAdvisor several years in a row.

Start your day with ‘Breakfast with the Koalas’ at Wild Life Hamilton Island, where you can enjoy an Aussie-style buffet breakfast in the open-air cafe as koalas look down on your table from their perch in the trees. Or for something a little more adventurous pack a takeaway breakfast, grab a hat and get hiking on one of the many trails that criss-cross the island, such as the challenging trek up to the highest point, Passage Peak.

For the rest of your time, laze away by the pool of your boutique Hamilton Island accommodation or self-catered apartment, enjoying the mild weather and relaxed Queensland atmosphere. When you’re ready for dinner, venture out to one of a number of award-winning restaurants, relaxed cafes and tasty takeaway shops. Though, you simply can’t leave the island without making time for sunset cocktails at One Tree Hill, the island’s famous hilltop lookout as the sky turns orange and the wind drops. It’s sheer perfection.
