On Our Last Getaway...
Winding up the roads towards Red Hill and absorbing the vineyard views, I felt like I’d well and truly left the city behind. Traversing the gum tree-framed drive leading to Lindenderry at Red Hill is an experience in itself. Set amongst the Mornington Peninsula’s best wineries, my first impressions upon arriving at Lindenderry were ones of warmth and relaxation, due to the foyer’s welcoming roaring fireplace and a tranquil valley view, not to mention a seamless check-in!
The Balcony Suite overlooked native gardens, scented with eucalyptus and accompanied by the soundtrack of local birdlife. The room was spacious, yet exuding comfort through a heavenly bed, cosy fireplace and the perfect selection of books to curl up with.
A tough decision during my stay at Lindenderry was leaving the accommodation to explore nearby wineries and nature trails. A stroll through the surrounding vines was the highlight of a great weekend getaway, and I enjoyed the convenience of visiting the onsite cellar door, which comes complete with a food menu featuring wood-fired pizza and friendly service. Don’t go past the perfectly crisp pork and fennel sausage pizza with rosemary and red onion, great with a glass of rose.
What to Expect:
In a region that combines vineyards and farmlands, hot springs and markets, dining, wining and antiquing alongside a stunning stretch of coast, you’ll find accommodation a covetable amalgam in itself – Lindenderry at Red Hill. While this renowned winery, restaurant and boutique hotel needs no introduction; we can’t help but rave about it. Boasting every conceivable luxury, this is the ultimate choice for that indulgent getaway you so deserve.
Curling up to the hotel, the first thing to impress is the grounds, encompassing 30-acres of manicured, English-style gardens, rolling vineyards and an idyllic lake. In the midst of all this, 40 elegant rooms await; a mix of spacious suites overlooking the estate, and courtyard rooms with views of a private piazza. Whichever you choose, each has a big, comfortable bed, all the mod cons and chic design. Heavy drapes in beautiful fabrics frame floor-to-ceiling glass, fresh flowers sit atop wood furnishings, and charcoal coloured walls show-off select artworks.
As far as we’re concerned, the only acceptable holiday activity is the kind to help you unwind – which this place serves up in spades. While your room is an incredibly inviting spot to rest, it’s the many extra offerings that will really excite. With wine and wood-fired pizza at the cellar door, a menu centred about seasonal produce at the restaurant, a day-spa, pool and tennis courts, there’s plenty to keep you busy. And yet, you’ll feel as relaxed as if you’d done nothing at all.
The heated pool is housed in a building with glass walls, so you can swim in perfect temperatures year-round, and take in the view while you do. And with a number of sun loungers and double wicker daybeds around its edge, you’ll want to stay awhile. This really is an ideal escape for couples looking to indulge, in top-notch food, wine, and perhaps a relaxing massage. Pick up a bottle of something special, and picnic next to the lake. There’s so much romance to be had at this beautiful retreat.
Our favourite feature of Lindenderry at Red Hill is the indoor swimming pool that overlooks the gardens.
