Eco-chic escapes for couples wanting to totally unwind

Property reviewed by Stephanie Mikkelsen on Friday, May 25, 2018

As a child you might have dreamed of spending the night in a treehouse, wriggling into a sleeping bag and dozing off to a soundtrack of chirping crickets and wildlife. Unless you or your friends had a bough-built house in your backyard however, it may have been hard to bring that wish to life. Fast-forward into adulthood however and you can live out that dream at Diamond Waters Treehouse Retreat, a sublime sanctuary devoted to sustainability, style and relaxation.

This twin-set of treehouses is a haven for travellers wanting their only disruption to be birdsong rather than the ring of their smartphone. In other words, this is a place to recharge. Located on a 12-acre verdant plot in the Camden Haven River region, the treehouses were designed to have a low carbon footprint – solar power, renewable resource – and encourage guests to succumb to the stillness of nature. Each retreat sleeps up to four guests (two on a sofa bed) and comes stocked with freshly ground coffee, garden-fresh herbs and the sense that the only time you’re on is your own.

The treehouses’ setting plays just a big a part of a guest’s experience as the getaway itself. The incredible surrounds encompass wetlands, open garden and vantage points of North Brother Mountain. Venture across the road to a blustery beach, or make for the calmer shores of the beaches within Crowdy Head National Park. When you do want to mingle with other non –furry, -feathery, or –four-legged locals, head to the townships of Laurieton in the north or Kendall, located to the west past Pacific Highway.
