On Our Last Getaway:
The short shady walk from Byron’s bustling centre encourages a sense of anticipation before we reach the front door of this new luxurious three-level modern townhouse. Once we arrive the sounds of the traffic instantly dies away. Pushing through the heavy wooden door, we enter into the cool of the downstairs tiled kitchen and open-plan living room. Immediately my attention is hijacked by the glimmering of the private pool and courtyard, surrounded by tropical foliage. Even before I explore upstairs I enjoy a quick swim to cool me down.
The beautiful L-shaped couch in the living room is draped with so many lush throws and cushions it’s hard not to dive into it! And the family-sized kitchen, with shiny new SMEG appliances, makes me feel like I am living in the pages of a magazine. Upstairs we pass three double bedrooms, a large bathroom and another comfortable living room, then we reach our destination: the luxury master bedroom, which overlooks the pool.
After a quick nap (with the plush bedding you can’t help but lie down and sleep), we walk the short distance to the beach and restaurants for dinner, then return to enjoy yet another swim in our private pool. Pure bliss.
What To Expect:
How do you guarantee your getaway happy snaps will be the envy of your friends and family? Simply take them at KoKo’s Beach House 1 or 2 in Byron Bay. These photogenic townhouses have all of the right angles; a contemporary look that mixes sleek styling and splashes of colour with ample comfort. KoKo’s Beach Houses 1 and 2 are half of four mirror-image pads, giving the houses the feeling of being at an impressively exclusive resort.
Each house features four bedrooms, sleeping up to eight sun-seekers in each, but don’t think that makes the houses fit only for groups. Oh no. A single family will have just as much reason to love one of these beach pads, as will any couples looking to lift the luxury factory on their next romantic escape.
No matter who you visit KoKo’s Beach House 1 or 2 with; plenty of space is assured. Sprawl out on the plush L-shaped sofa in the central living area, flicking through more than 80 Foxtel channels or movies on Netflix. You might zone out to relaxing beats, courtesy of the whizzbang sound system; or chat to your travelling companions as they move about the beautiful adjoining kitchen. Ask nicely and they may even hand-deliver you an espresso!
One perch sure to grab your attention is each houses' private pool, fully fenced in and flanked by cushion-dotted lounges. Devotees of Vitamin D will be quick to familiarise themselves with the best times for poolside sun or shade. Those with their eye on beach swimming can slip on their flip-flops and duck through a private gate at the rear of the KoKo’s complex; this takes you out onto Belongil Beach.
Having a private pool – plus the beach only a few minutes’ walk away – makes a getaway at KoKo’s a win-win. Even if you don’t feel up for swimming among beach breaks, you still have a cool respite from Byron Bay’s heat. Perfect!

Byron Bay is more than beaches. The region’s dining offerings have never been better and that means wondrous bites are ahead. Three Blue Ducks at The Farm is an all-day drawcard, where the chefs rely on seasonality to guide the menus. Head to Fleet for a small bar atmosphere (bookings are a must), or swing past Top Shop for a post-swim coffee or breakfast burger. Nourish your soul with one of the bowls from Folk. Happy hour starts from 5pm at Miss Margarita.
Make use of all that fuel by heading up to the Captain Cook Lookout, along the Cape Byron Walking Track. Keep walking along Lighthouse Road to the Cape Byron Lighthouse; further along this jutting piece of land is the most easterly point of the Australian mainland.
