Get to know the Sapphire Coast by snapping up boutique accommodation

Sapphire by name, sapphire by nature. This stretch of the NSW South Coast is as beautiful as it is rich with things to do. Located halfway between Melbourne and Sydney, the Sapphire Coast is an almost unspoilt paradise of national parks, pristine beaches and gastronomic experience.

Bega (yes, it's where the cheese comes from) is the buzzing heart of the region. The Bega Cheese Heritage Centre will tempt the tastebuds of every cheese connoisseur and you can taste Bega products, as well as other Australian cheeses, and even pick some up to take home. For other gourmet goodies, swing past the town centre market (every second Friday) to stock up on fruit and veg, meats, eggs and homemade treats. While this town may be known for its dairy cred, but there's much more to find here than fromage. To Bega’s north is Brogo Dam, a beautiful spot for a laid-back picnic or a canoe excursion. Mumbulla Creek Falls is also a short drive out from Bega.

Merimbula is another popular stop along the Sapphire Coast, and boasts sheltered waters, untouched beaches and mouth-watering seafood. And although it becomes busier in peak season - book your Sapphire Coast accommodation in advance to snap up the best boutique stays - it is still possible to find a deserted beach you can have all to yourself. Be sure to visit the Merimbula Boardwalk – a round trip comes in at slightly more than three kilometres and there’s a café in the middle for refuelling. For whale watching between September and November, head to Eden to spot humpback whales migrating towards Antarctica.

Other towns that make up the Sapphire Coast's stable include Pambula, Tathra and Wyndham.

No matter which town you visit (you might even visit more than one), you'll find a boutique stay in our assembly of Sapphire Coast accommodation. We also have a collection of luxury New South Wales accommodation too, perfect for when you're ready to see more of this vast state.
