Up, up where the air is clear pretty much describes The Heavens. This gorgeous 160-acre property perches on a plateau on Kangaroo Valley's sandstone walls. To say the views from this idyllic spot are breathtaking is a simple understatement; you will sit transfixed on your deck happily tracking the flight of distant eagles and the Gang-Gang species of cockatoo. Waking in your warm bed to gaze across the cloudtops is, well, heavenly.
There are three accommodation options. The two self-contained, one-bedroom pavilions - Aurora and Innana - feature superbly realized contemporary designs. The interiors of these curvaceous cottages are spacious and use recycled Australian hardwoods that have been revivified by local woodworkers. Every room glories in the sensational panoramas, and the deck is a wonderful spot to sit with some binoculars and a pot of tea and play bird twitchier for a while. At night, there is a flickering gas fire to keep you cozy before you retire to the huge king-size bed.
Elysium is a two-bedroom abode for families and friends to share and kids at heart will love to see the alpacas in the adjoining paddock and meet Kevin Bacon – the famous pig known throughout the valley.
The Kangaroo Valley-Berry district is renowned for its antique shops, farmers' markets, cafes, galleries and hikes to waterfalls.
