Our Summer Holiday Wish List

In the world of boutique accommodation, thinking ahead for your holiday plans is not just something for the organized to do; it’s a necessity if you don’t want to miss out on the most luxe stays.

Don’t get us wrong, we abhor the Christmas decorations that appear in supermarkets the day after Halloween ends, just as much as the next shopper. But when it comes to planning your Christmas getaway, booking in advance is highly recommended to secure an excellent festive season.

The Beautiful Accommodation team members already have our sights set on certain locations, so these Australian holiday destinations are where we’ll be heading this summer school holidays. Here are a few ideas that may inspire your next adventure!

Beautiful Accommodation’s Editor, Megan, loves to hit the beach when it comes to summertime, so she’s picked some choice seaside spots to stay and play. Here’s her thoughts on what to see and do along the Mornington Peninsula, and also up to sunny Byron Bay.

Mornington Peninsula, Victoria

The Mornington Peninsula boasts some of Victoria’s best beaches, and sheltered spots such as Mount Martha or Dromana are wonderful to loll about in clear, still water with shallow sandbanks that stretch for days. I’ll probably stay in Sorrento or Rye, and I plan to spend more than a few days exploring the wine and gourmet offerings in Merricks and Red Hill. Fruit picking is a blast, too.

Byron Bay, New South Wales

Whether it’s the hinterland or smack on the beach, I’m so looking forward to heading to Byron Bay for a summer getaway. The artistic and music-loving vibe is right up my alley, and the gourmet food offering is really getting impressive, with paddock-to-plate ethos in more than a few restaurants, and a vibrant farmers market to boot—perfect for cooking up a storm in the unique pad I’ll stay in (it’s got to have a veggie garden and a view of the beach). I might see if there’s a quiet day to catch a wave at Lennox Heads, before heading back to a Byron bar to enjoy a local craft brew.

Beautiful Accommodation’s Deputy Editor, Steph, has set her sights on East Coast Tasmania and Barossa Valley for her holiday planning. Here’s how she plans to spend her time.

East Coast, Tasmania

The Christmas break is the excuse I’m looking for to jump the Bass Strait and discover Tasmania’s beautiful East Coast. I love the idea of travelling the Great Eastern Drive, a route that winds from Hobart to Orford, Swansea, Bicheno and St Helens. There will be plenty of pit stops along the way: Maria Island, Freycinet National Park and Bay of Fires. Accommodation close to the East Coast’s famous beaches is high on my wish list, and I’m sure I will make time to hole up for a day or two in some boutique digs.

Plan your stay along the exciting East Coast.

Barossa Valley, South Australia

I struggle to imagine a better way to spend a couple of days holiday than hopping between cellar doors, local markets and provedores boasting shelves laden with gourmet treats. So I am Barossa Valley bound. Although I’m not sure whether I’ll fly into Adelaide or drive from Melbourne, I do know one thing: having plenty of luggage room or in the car boot is a must. I will also be leaving tight jeans at home. This Barossa Valley getaway will be all about wining and dining. Throw in a stay at a gorgeous cottage or sleek villa and I’m all set.

Stay among the vines in Barossa.
