Bathtub with a view: 6 extravagant baths to sink in and soak up the stunning views
Posted by Casey Warrener on Thursday, February 23, 2017
We love a holiday house with a great view, but it takes a special place to make sure there’s a panorama from the tub. Nothing says relaxation quite like slipping into a sudsy bath and admiring a gorgeous scene. We’d advise against bringing reading materials to these basins – you’d be too distracted by the outlooks to keep your place on page. These six extravagant baths are made to simply recline, unwind and take in the stunning surrounds. Ready to sink in?
Grey Gardens, Chewton, VIC
Nestled into the Wattle Valley, Grey Gardens offers incredible views over the old goldfields and the national heritage park. Here there’s an eclectic mix of designer finds; a record player with an enviable collection of vinyl, a retro cocktail kit, a luxe stack of mags, select artworks and exquisite linens. We all know the best ideas arrive while in the shower. But why stand-up to muse when you can lay back and take in the view? The outdoor clawfoot tub overlooks a help-yourself veggie patch, so you can conjure up dinner inspiration while you soak. Inside, there’s a 1950s mint green bath that sits next to tall windows capturing the valley.
Aquatic Visions, Prevelly Beach, WA
Surrounded by the Margaret River's top-notch wineries and right alongside the incredible surf breaks of Prevelly Beach is Aquatic Visions. As the name suggests, these two apartments offer views of clear blue waters from every aspect. For the ultimate indulgence, fill-up the double spa and lounge between its jets with a front row seat to the sparkling Indian Ocean. This is what holiday dreams are made of. Bonus: there’s an outdoor shower where you can rinse-off while looking over the beach.
Blue Ridge Retreat, Halls Gap, VIC
Blue Ridge Retreat is tucked away in the Grampians National Park, right in the heart of Halls Gap. This peaceful bushland villa is ideal for a romantic escape. There’s a double spa bath exposed to the main bedroom, sunken down into a tiled area safe for splashes. Bubble up the bath with Australian botanical scents and soak legs tired from climbing the rocky ranges, or simply break out the chocolates and sparkling wine for pure hedonism in the tub. From this basin you have views of the native surrounds by day, and with no streetlights nearby, a star-filled night sky. This might be a private couples retreat, but there’s no guarantee cockatoos wont perch on the balcony to view your ablutions.
Adelaide Luxury Beach House, Henley Beach, SA
Situated just 15-minutes from the Adelaide CBD and planted right on the shores of Henley Beach, Adelaide Luxury Beach House really is just that. With uninterrupted ocean views from all three levels and South Australian wine to settle in with, the hardest decision you'll have to make is which part of this palatial space to enjoy first. The bath would be the perfect spot to mull it over. We'd recommend freshening up in the ensuite spa that looks out to crystal clear waters, and then heading up to the rooftop terrace for an aperitif as the sun goes down.
Anchors Port Campbell, Port Campbell, VIC
Elevated above Port Campbell, just inland from the Great Ocean Road, Anchors Port Campbell has three villas to choose from; each boasting spa baths with equally amazing views. Being positioned on a hilltop means a spectacular vantage of the surrounding farmlands fanning out to the Southern Ocean and unbelievable sunsets. Soak up the scenery from the privacy of your own fabulous tub, and then curl up in the super soft Egyptian cotton sheets on your plush king-size bed.
Silver Street Studio, Perth, WA
Midway between Fremantle proper and South Beach you’ll find Silver Street Studio. Originally an artist’s space and gallery, this cottage simply radiates good vibes. In summer olive trees shade the courtyard and grape vines hang from the pergola. On the sunny north-facing balcony, just outside the doors of the former kiln-room-come-mediation-room, sits a clawfoot tub overlooking this high-walled patio. Grab the mountain bikes that come with the house and take a spin around town or along the coast, and then return to chill out in the open air bath.
