Set just a block back from the shore, The Beach Terraces is ideal for a relaxed tropical getaway, offering 20 contemporary apartments with airy private balconies. The palm-fringed sand and pristine waters of iconic Four Mile Beach are a skip away, or you can cool off in the property’s three pretty watering holes: an extensive lagoon-style pool with spa, a babies’ pool with shade, or a third pool beside a courtyard sun-deck boasting barbecue facilities.

Spacious one-, two- and three-bed apartments suit couples or families, and sport large living/dining rooms, fully equipped kitchens and private balconies for eating al fresco. Some two-bed apartments include a second bathroom, or opt for a three-bedder with indulgent balcony spa. Air-conditioning and fans keep you cool, with thoughtful extras provided including beach towels, free Wi-Fi and complimentary undercover parking.

It’s tempting to chill out poolside, but the patrolled beach beckons for year-round dips (there’s a net enclosure in stinger season from November to May). Port Douglas’s charms are also a stroll away, with most attractions in easy walking distance, whether you fancy checking out the village restaurants, bars and shops, stocking up at Coles supermarket on Macrossan Street, or heading to the popular Port Douglas Markets on Sundays to source local produce. You can wander to The Reef Marina for cruises to the Great Barrier Reef, visit the tour desk in reception to plan adventures, or arrange a pick-up there for day trips to Daintree National Park, where the rainforest meets the reef.
