Where to start with Thala Beach Nature Reserve? This North Queensland resort is where deluxe accommodation and eco-friendly credentials meet – and the
result is downright amazing. A getaway here will leave any guest feeling relaxed, revived and restored. In fact, you’ll probably feel like that after
just one night.
Thala Beach Nature Reserve is sandwiched between Cairns and Port Douglas. It sits on private headland – 145 acres of it, to be exact – that comes complete with a stretch of untouched coast, panoramic views and lush tropical rainforest. Your experience starts from the moment you pull up. You’ll be greeted with an arrival cocktail in the airy, open lobby, and this attention to detail will set the tone for the rest of your stay.
It’s then on to your accommodation. Thala Beach Nature Reserve has four room types to choose from. The timber bungalows are all nestled within the rainforest
and are built at varying heights; some sit in the upper canopies of the forest and others are set low on the forest floor. All bungalows have balconies,
comfortable king beds, ensuites, and ocean, mountain or forest views. Be sure to kick back on your balcony and keep your eyes peeled for visiting birds,
butterflies, wallabies, possums and sugar gliders.
The resort has everything you need (and want) to make your stay the envy of your Facebook friends. Ospreys Restaurant is where fine dining is taken to a higher level, quite literally. The restaurant is perched high among the tree tops and boasts views from Double Island to Cape Tribulation and across the Great Barrier Reef. There are two free-form swimming pools made for gentle paddling or late-night swims. If sea swimming is more your style, make a beeline for the private beach and sheltered coves.
Feel like getting active? A winding network of walking trails weaves through the forest, palm groves and coconut plantation, or you could hire a kayak to explore by sea. Of course, you can also join one of the free activities run by the resort. Choose from guided nature walks, beachcombing, tree planting and stargazing.
