While sister property The Royal Mail Hotel is history reinvented with contemporary and culinary glam, nearby Mount Sturgeon Estate proudly flaunts its heritage with a grand 1850s homestead, cute bluestone cottages from the 1840s and an impressive working shearing shed.
This is a brilliant slice of country life. Cockatoos screech across the sky, merino sheep baa in the background, kangaroos are daily visitors and the huge station is overlooked by its impressive namesake Mount Sturgeon.
The Homestead was once home to the Armytage family (of Como fame) and today is a showcase of luxurious refinement. The six elegant bedrooms accommodate up to 12; there is a formal dining room, impressive lounge room and informal sun-room; a tended private veggie patch and a wide verandah framing the Mount Sturgeon view. In fact, it’s so extraordinary it makes for an outstanding group getaway, wedding ceremony venue or small corporate retreat needing the ‘wow’ factor.
The other options are the former shearer’s quarters now transformed into classic country charmers. Think leather armchairs, wood fires, timber floors and mesmerising views. Choose from one- or two-bedroom cottages, though the one-bedrooms options have clever bathrooms – let’s put it this way, those water tanks are not what they seem!
Whichever you choose, all guests may use the hotel’s facilities, together.
