Ahoy mateys! Dry land has never looked so good

Property reviewed by Stephanie Mikkelsen on Wednesday, December 14, 2016

Nestled in the heart of the Mornington Peninsula is Hidden Treasure, two private retreats for a couple (Captain’s Cabin) or group of up to five people (Crew’s Cottage). As the name of the latter suggests, the two-bedroom Cottage takes its cues from all things nautical, with exposed beams, vibrant blue soft furnishings and ocean-themed prints. The Cabin is bedecked with a classic monochromatic palette plus a sprinkling of bright yellow cushions.

Maritime puns aside, Captain’s Cabin is nirvana for those seeking time away with their first mate. It’s peaceful and secluded, located on a quiet Blairgowrie property. Your first impression is an excellent one: an upturned boat and breezy covered deck area encourages couples to step into the newly renovated kitchen. Further in, a couch is separated from the queen bed with a shoji screen, and sliding doors lead outside to an umbrella-shaded al fresco setting. Everything in the cabin, from the pair of sunloungers on the second deck area to the wardrobe space, is made for a duo. Be sure to make time to sudsy soak in the deep freestanding tub in the sparkling ensuite (hint: there's room for two).

Over at Crew’s Cottage, recognisable thanks to its fire engine-red front door, a bright open-plan living space on the ground floor is its heart, with a Coonara wood fire for the cooler months. An adjoining kitchen has everything you need to prepare a delicious breakfast, long lunch or antipasto platter for sunset cocktails in the courtyard. The master bedroom with ensuite and access to a private garden area is also on the ground floor. A second bedroom, extra bathroom and relaxed mezzanine sitting area are upstairs. You’ll be hard pressed choosing a perch for your afternoon reading – the comfy fold-out sofa bed in the mezzanine or the hammock in the courtyard. The courtyard also has an undercover barbecue area and outdoor table setting for al fresco meals.

Hidden Treasure’s location is a gem in itself. Blairgowrie, the next village along the bay from Sorrento, might not be as famous as its trendy neighbour but it enjoys the same access to the region’s beautiful beaches, coastal trails, boutiques, cafes and restaurants.

Crew’s Cottage and Captain’s Cabin can be booked separately, or larger groups can snag both. Pets are also welcome outdoors at the Cottage.

Please note that Hidden Treasure is BYO linen (sheets, pillowcases, towels, tea towels), however full linen hire is available upon request.
