If you want to stay somewhere truly special that captures the food, wine and heritage of Tasmania, then Brockley Estate is that place. Just getting to the homestead is an experience with the 2km drive winding through the 10,000 acre estate.
This is stunningly beautiful countryside, with rolling hills and native bushland behind and merino lambs baa-ing on the pastures out front. To work up an appetite, explore the property’s riverside convict road and bush walks. Kangaroos are regularly seen and platypuses often play in the wide river that runs through the estate.
Yet the setting is only an amuse bouche to the Brockley story. The entree is the authentic restoration of the elegant convict brick homestead, now filled with Tasmanian and English antiques, exquisite artwork and precious rugs strewn across polished floorboards. The beckoning verandah is the perfect spot for sunset drinks, local olives and tapas.
Which leads us to main: the food has turned Brockley into a must-visit foodie destination. Co-owner Chaxi is from the Canary Islands and her Spanish cooking showcases the local produce, including seafood. The wines are equally parochial with the cellar including some renowned local Tassie chardonnay, pinot noir and riesling, as well as beers. Dessert? Well, that would have to be the romantic colonial bedrooms, complete with modern comforts of course!
