Perched on a sunny north-facing hill, set up high to provide spectacular views over mountain ranges and the twinkling night lights of town, Aruma has all the makings of an excellent High Country escape. The hub’s foodie delights are easily accessible, you’re day-tripping distance to not one but five wine regions, and let’s not forget all that glorious nature – Bright is a beautiful place to be, any time of year.
Curling up to the house, the first thing you’ll notice is its sprawling size – the exterior of this architect-designed beauty features an enticing mix of timber, cobbled stone and corrugated iron. The interiors are contemporary, spacious and decked out with trendy wares, but the really outstanding feature is the views; captured in floor-to-ceiling glass around the house. You can soak-up the stunning outlook while lounging, enjoying local produce in the kitchen, and even while tucked up in bed. There are, of course, open-air landings to take advantage of the scenery – with an al fresco dining area (and a timber supported hammock for post-meal naps), you’re sure to want to sip sundowners and enjoy drawn-out meals outdoors. And with heaters outside, the deck is a continuously inviting space in-spite of cold weather.
As you might have guessed, this place is great for entertaining. With a chef’s kitchen for whipping up multi-course meals, a barbecue for casual grilling, and televisions in every room ensuring no arguments over what to watch, everyone will be content. The sleeping areas are completely separate from the living, so you can retreat to your room for timeout whenever you wish.
It will be tempting to just laze around taking in those views, but with so much to do in your surrounds you’re going to want to get out and explore. If you’re a keen hiker, there are beautiful trails right by the house – head up to Huggins Lookout and be rewarded by the photo-op at the top, or jump on the path that takes you into town a leisurely 10 minutes away. After spending your days getting active in awe-inspiring settings, treat yourself to a lavish meal at one of Bright’s hatted restaurants. This is a place that promises balance – between cardio-fuelled activities and stunning landscapes, cosy cafes and modish white-clothed affairs. And Aruma is a wonderful base to experience it all.
