Family Friendly Escapes

If the thought of kids running amok in the house during school holidays makes you nervous, we have some top family friendly escapes that will keep the kids entertained by day and the adults relaxed.

Kick back with the entire family and enjoy the views from the top of the hill at Lathami Lodge on Kangaroo Island while the kids craft their own adventures through the hidden tunnel to the secret Stokes Beach.

You can also let the kids wander away from Clem and Tines Vintage Beach House in Binningup, Western Australia. Only a short drive from Perth CBD, Binningup is a small suburb right on the beach, so the kids are safe to roam around while you play golf, fish, surf or swim or BBQ in the backyard with family friends.

Travel across to Tasmania to Bicheno Hideaway where the property lives up to its name – it’s totally secluded and has beach access where you can relax, swim, snorkel or fish.

If the weather turns sour and beaching isn't an option, Mary’s Beach House on Victoria’s Mornington Peninsula has a kitted-out games room complete with billiards table, dartboard, TV and PS2 – so the weather outside doesn’t even matter.

For the Victorians wanting to escape the invading chill of Melbourne, explore the surrounds of Port Douglas, including the Great Barrier Reef, while staying at Villa San Michele, which has two saltwater pools.

On the opposite side of the thermometer is Guthega Alpine Inn in New South Wales, which hopefully will be blanketed in snow in time for the holidays. It has ski-runs for all levels, access to Perisher, and a relaxed family vibe.

Another hideaway is Yeranda at Barrington Tops, a special cottage hidden in the depths of the forest. This remarkable eco-getaway is perfect for those with older kids, where you can spend time reconnecting away from everyone’s busy schedules.
