Our Picks of the Top Design Features of a Boutique Getaway
Posted by Megan Osborne on Friday, September 8, 2017
Just like a house is not always a home, four walls, a bed and a door does not make a great, luxury getaway. Great hosting, location and unique features all contribute to an unforgettable escape, but our favourite element to any stand-out boutique stay; is the décor and design.
A room doesn’t have to be architecturally designed to evoke a certain feeling; it’s all in the dressings. Beautiful Accommodation recently attended the Life Instyle trade show in Melbourne, to source inspiration for some inspired home décor design, and boy did we find some beauties.
Here are our top picks of design features that help make a stunning boutique getaway.
Almond and Glacier Table Cloths, Cactus Quilt Cover, Montauk
Freshen up your interior with some designer linen from Hamptons inspired brand, Montauk. French flax linen combines durability and a visually appealing texture that’s surprisingly soft to the touch!
The linen bed sets are show-stoppers, sure to lift the game of any bedroom design, but the coastal influenced collection doesn’t stop there. “Made from the same soft linen as our sheets, we recently launched our vibrant range of table linen comprising tablecloths, placemats and napkins, designed to bring a little effortless style around the dining table.” Owner Martyn Feller tells us. We love the cactus cloth, it’s sure to complement your next foodie spread!
The collection also includes towels, clothing, bags and cushions, all in muted tones that are elegant and simple. Grab the whole set and your pad will simply exude coastal calm!
Salad Servers, Butter Up Dish, Oyster Spice Vessel, Geo Fromage Knife, Salt and Pepper Spoons, and Round Tray, Marble Basics
Founded in 2014 by Melbourne sisters Bliss and Bonnie Adams, Marble Basics does pretty much what it says, in and oh so attractive way. “Our aim is to bring a little bit of luxury to the everyday - we hate trends and the thought of using something once and throwing it in the back of a cupboard.” Says Bonnie Adams.
The designs are simple, evoking a timeless and practical aesthetic. Each cut of marble is unique and designed to be long-lived, while keeping things simple.
Simple, not dull though! “Our design ethos is bringing simple shapes to life with clever details, making Basic products anything but boring.” Bonnie tells us.
We’re drooling over most of their items, but are particularly in love with their butter dish, display boards and their new range of metallic salad servers. Think of how epic a farm table spread would look with all these beauties on it.
The Beach People
The Beach People started out in 2013 in the Northern Rivers of New South Wales. An idea formed by two sisters; Emma Henderson and Victoria Beattie, this iconic Aussie brand creates beautiful Australian designed products that are inspired by family, friends and living by the sea.
The beach towels, bed linen, bags, soaps and other home products are not just beautiful however; they’re designed to be long lasting, and strive to innovate with the best materials and quality design—making the products easy to use and wash.
Partnering with a coastal-themed charity as well, $5 from each Original Jute Bag purchased from The Beach People goes to the Great Barrier Reef Foundation, a preservation initiative. There's never been a better reason to deck out your home in beach-bliss style.
You and Me Collection, Koa
Koa was founded in the Mornington Peninsula by local designer Kaitlin Liddell. The range of ceramic home wares includes products such as platters, cups, candles, bowls, pot plants, pendant lights and vases. The products are ethically hand crafted in Bali, with a team of talented artisans that Liddell works closely with.
Each design is hand carved—therefore unique—and Kaitlin explains the sustainability of creation: “[The pieces] are brought to life through kilns run by renewable energy.” She says. The You & Me collection is inspired by a long summer night, and balances colours, patterns and textures to evoke a feeling of calm.
Designed to be functional and durable, we love the idea of the candles, that once used may be recycled as bowls or mugs—what a great idea! Stock your table or decorate your kitchen, bedrooms and living spaces with these unique and beautiful designs to really freshen things up.
Natural, handmade soap, Dindi Naturals
Made from natural, raw, locally grown ingredients in the north east of Victoria, Dindi Naturals create some rather luxurious skin products.
Their scented and scrumptious items are not just good enough to eat—almost—but they’re also naturally good for your skin and sustainability. “Dindi soaps, perfumes, creams and mists are designed to stimulate the senses, yet are gentle on skin and the environment. They are made with all natural ingredients, perfumed with pure essential oils, are free from palm oil and are biodegradable.” Owner and creator Pip Guyatt tells us.
No artificial preservatives, synthetics, petrochemicals, sulphates or any other nasties, make Dindi Naturals the perfect bathroom filler for an ideal getaway! We’re already dreaming of soaking away in a mandarin, rose and lavender milk bath, before lathering up in papaya body oil! Talk about relaxation heaven – just what you need on a holiday.
Palm Beach Collection
Lilies and Leather and Coconut and Lime scented soy candles, Palm Beach Collection.
Made in Australia and family owned, Palm Beach Collection produce some very visually appealing candles (not to mention they smell divine, obviously!). We think candles are a wonderful way to welcome guests into a space, and well-designed scents can do so much to set the scene for a boutique getaway.
The luxurious soy-based fragrances are inspired by Sydney’s Palm Beach, and each candle is hand-poured. You can also be surrounded by their invigorating scents through reed-diffusers and bath and body products. We just love the recent re-design, making the look almost as memorable as the smell!
