To us, the words ‘romantic getaway’ sound pretty damn good – who doesn’t want an opportunity to chill with one of their favourite people?! And because every couple is different, there need be no specifications as to what a holiday for two should be. Keeping this in mind, we’ve put together a host of stays that includes some of the coolest, off-the-beaten-path spots for romance around, as well as some amazing gaze-into-each-other’s-eyes type scenarios (come on now, don’t act like you never do that).
For adventure lovers
Kimberley Coastal Camp, Admiralty Gulf, WA
Unspoiled by urban inhabitation, Kimberly Coastal Camp has no roads, no pollution, and no airstrip. You’ll be staying in beach huts but make no mistake; this isn’t your average kind of campsite. Your options for arrival to the island are floatplane landing directly onto the waterfront, or light aircraft followed by helicopter transfer to the pristine beach. Either-way, you’ll be arriving in style – and that’s just the start. With cabins decked out in Sheridan linen overlooking the azure waters of the Admiralty Gulf, this is the ultimate in luxury camping. Better still, it’s all-inclusive; with meals and customised activities prepared for you each day. You’ll fish, swim, indulge in gourmet food and explore ancient rock art with your one-and-only on this one-of-a-kind adventure.
Vatu Sanctuary, Alice Springs, NT
Alice Springs is a destination for the couple eager to learn and explore together. And Vatu Sanctuary is the ideal place to do just that; perfect for those who want seclusion and downtime, but something more adventurous than lazing on a beach. An ever-changing gallery crafted by a renowned Indigenous art dealer and her artist husband, the wall hangings and murals around the site add another unique element to your haven. Bold colours inside and out are in harmony with the landscape, and at night the tropical gardens are lit by candles, lamps and the stars, making for an incredibly romantic setting. And with passionate and knowledgeable hosts, you will be led to experience the best of the area’s culture, natural attractions and bush foods.

Set on the banks of the Hawkesbury River and only accessible by boat, Amaroo Cottage has views across the water to rocky outcrops and rolling bushland from every room. As with all things nautical, this boutique boathouse is all about decks – the private jetty, the courtyard deck, or the large verandah off the master bedroom. Put your feet up on your choice of outdoor perches, explore the private beach, cast a line and grill up your catch-of-the-day on the barbeque. Here, you can’t help but relax and reconnect.
For creative lovers
Silver Street Studio, Perth, WA
Midway between Fremantle proper and South Beach you’ll find Silver Street Studio. Originally an artist’s space and gallery, this cottage exudes creative bohemian vibes. In summer olive trees shade the courtyard and grape vines hang from the pergola. On the sunny north-facing balcony, just outside the doors of the former kiln-room-come-mediation-room, sits a clawfoot tub overlooking the high-walled outdoor area. Grab the mountain bikes that come with the house and take a spin around town or along the coast, and then return to chill out in the open-air bath with some bubbly.
