With summer just around the corner and a beach escape likely to be high on your agenda, there’s never been a better time to head to the coast and hole up in some swanky accommodation. Go on, you deserve it...

Kims Beachside Retreats, NSW

Kims Beachside Retreats are a collection of timber bungalows and villas boasting a subtropical rainforest backdrop and outlook over Toowoon Bay on the NSW Central Coast. These comfortable bolt holes have all the hallmarks of the perfect beach house: high ceilings, timber floors, cane furnishings and glass windows that can be thrown open to let in the sea breeze. Some have extra luxuries too, like an open fireplace, a private pool and even a personal sauna. A communal pavilion-style restaurant is where you’ll mingle with other guests and feast on Kim's legendary buffets. These spreads are the stuff of gourmet dreams, and the tables overflow with outstanding seafood, meats, fruits, vegetables and cheeses. The buffets happen three times a day and are included in the tariff.

Bedarra Island Villa, QLD

A stay at Bedarra Island Villa promises romance, luxury and seclusion. The villa is set on a two-acre estate on the east side of Queensland’s Bedarra Island, a location framed by swaying palm trees and white-blonde beaches. It might sound cliché, but this villa really is a piece of tropical paradise. It’s perched near the water's edge at Doorila Cove, a stretch of sand worthy of a ‘Most Beautiful Beach’ gong. Whether you choose to kayak on the calm waters or laze an afternoon away in a hammock, your privacy is guaranteed: the island is home to only a few private houses and has no public access, meaning day-trippers won’t be around to disturb you.

Witta Circle, QLD

This modern beauty is set on an exclusive island enclave behind Hastings Street, putting it within an easy strolling distance to gorgeous beaches, shops and restaurants. The two-storey home is outfitted with honey-blonde timbers, crisp hues and a sprinkling of verdant foliage. Six bedrooms are strewn throughout but don’t think you’ll be tempted to spend all your time under the covers. Seven Mile Heaven in Gerroa on NSW’s South Coast is an impressive waterfront home. The property has an open floor plan and comes complete with five bedrooms, a spacious living area, rumpus room and balconies. The owners of Seven Mile Heaven designed the accommodation with families and large groups in mind: the bunk bedrooms and downstairs lounge will be a huge hit with kids. For parents, there is a plush master bedroom and soaking tub. It’s the views here that steal the spotlight though, and Seven Mile Heaven offers outlooks of both the ocean and hinterland. Seven Mile Beach is easily accessible from the house, with surfing, swimming and windsurfing just a few of the activities on offer. Back at the beach house, we can imagine epic billiards and cricket tournaments, as well as lazy barbecues and afternoons spent whale watching.

Tammar Ridge, SA

Sweeping ocean views meet modern design at Tammar Ridge on South Australia’s Kangaroo Island. From its lofty perch atop a hill, this pretty pile overlooks Snellings Beach and is blessed with panoramic 360-degree views. A perch at the outdoor setting on the timber deck is the best vantage point to admire these vistas, or gather in the open-plan living, kitchen and dining area to gawk at it through the massive floor-to-ceiling windows. The house can comfortably accommodate up to 10 guests, and comes with sleek entertainment systems, a roaring wood fire, and a stash of games. When it comes time to get your feet sandy, simply wander down the gently sloping hill to the beach.

And when you catch a glimpse of the saltwater swimming pool, Jacuzzi, full-size tennis court and private driving range, you’ll probably agree.
