This has to be one of Australia's least-known but most extraordinary wilderness treasures. Located on the Admiralty Gulf in the North Kimberley region, Kimberley Coastal Camp takes luxury camping to a whole new level. Just a few lucky guests will ever experience the magic, but those who do will be enchanted.
Kimberley Coastal Camp was hand built by Rocky Terry and his family. It is about as remote as you can get – guests fly in and stay in rustic gazebos that offer outback luxury and stunning water views. The tariff includes superb gourmet meals that are relished in the open-air lounge and dining area, which is decorated with curios lost and found. The feel is Robinson Crusoe in style.
Then the trip really begins. Few people ever get to see ancient Gwion Gwion Aboriginal rock art (or Bradshaw figures), which predates Wandjina art – but you can see it for yourself here. The fully guided fishing is sensational, with catches of barramundi and fresh oysters. This is adventure tourism in comfort and style.
