Absolute peace and privacy in the heart of the Australian bush is reason enough to stay at Woodlands Rainforest Retreat. But be warned: you may have to contend with the delightful chatter of rosellas or even the splashes of foraging platypuses, which love this private retreat as much as we do. With 40 acres of bushland surrounding four bungalows, the setting could not be more tranquil.
The bungalows fit beautifully into this sublime setting. Crafted from locally milled timber and warm red brick, they are spacious, with floor-to-ceiling windows, timber floors and an open-plan design that leads to an inviting sleeping space with adjoining sunken double spa. Yum.
Speaking of yum, hosts Vicky and Gary provide scrumptious breakfast provisions, and if  you need a little spoiling, you can order dinner from the à la carte menu (they can also provide supplies for a barbie on the deck). And while the Yarra Valley area is rich with good restaurants, wineries and attractions such as the Healesville Sanctuary, we bet the setting, service and romance of award-winning Woodlands will be far too enticing to leave.
