Port Fairy's happy confluence of beaches, historic architecture and the cutest port you have ever seen have made it one of the hottest (or rather, coolest) destinations in Victoria. Oscars embodies the seaside chic that has enveloped this quiet village: elegantly hip, casually comfortable and well placed for those travelling beyond the Twelve Apostles.
As ever, perfect position helps. The boutique hotel commands a site near the centre of town, fronting the Moyne River port (peak hour is when the fishing and sailing boats return home). Even choosing your room is a treat … a peaceful inner courtyard, perhaps, or absolute river frontage' Our favourite is the grand Courtyard Suite (with its own separate lounge), but next time the new Spa Room's huge tub looks very tempting.
 The decor – all French provincial in whites and neutral tones – creates a tranquil mood, ideal for relaxing in the elegant guest lounge or as a comforting refuge after a day of exploring. And then there is the chef-prepared breakfast served on the terrace on warm days – don't miss the berry hotcakes or Oscars' bacon and eggs.
