Host Jenny Hudson suggests that guests might as well throw away their car keys once they arrive at Abaleigh. And she's right: these stylish apartments are positioned right on the beach, with no intervening road. If you wander five minutes along the sand, you are in the heart of Cowes with its many shops and restaurants.
Abaleigh is a charming port to hove into with a choice of spacious studios for couples, or a bigger apartment for friends travelling together. Each has a lovely, sun-drenched ambience that pervades the individually decorated living areas and the private north-facing Tuscan inspired terraces. The sophisticated use of blue, cream and timber finishes perfectly completes the beachside feel.
Do stroll along the evocatively named Lovers Walk, which runs just above the beach  into Cowes. But be warned: Jenny reports there have been an unusually high number of marriage proposals at Abaleigh, which is clearly something to do with its amorous atmosphere.
Location: 140km or two hours southeast of Melbourne. Melway 934 E1. HEMA RA 52 F3.
Facilities: Two studios (one with spa, one with double shower and water views). One two storey apartment up to three bedrooms, (water views, spa, double shower, kitchen, laundry). All self-contained with open-plan dining/kitchen/living (log fire, TV, VCR, DVD, sound system), private courtyard. Full breakfast provisions provided.
