The glass-fronted Great Room of Villa Gusto has a magnificent view of nearby Mount Buffalo, and it is also the nightly venue for chef Neal Gregory's epic five-course degustation menus. Yet if you imagine that stunning scenery and fine food are the most Villa Gusto can offer, think again: this is a High Country interpretation of an Italian villa, replete with luxurious accommodation, discreet service, areas for elegant relaxation and much more.
The villa is loaded with Italian antiques and artworks, the two acres of verdant garden a discovery trail of Tuscan fountains and urns. The suites are themed in various colours – Cioccolato, Mellanzane, Limone – and drip with rich tapestries, paintings, a decadent marble bathroom and every modern comfort and convenience.
 Neal has cooked in fine restaurants around the world, but the emphasis here is on the many regional cuisines of Italy and The Age Good Food Guide agrees, this is la dolce vita indeed.
