This cosy, warming B&B in the middle of Bright is named for the dreamy, bluish haze produced by native gum trees that line the hills and mountains of the Ovens Valley. Bright is also known for the blaze of autumn colour from its plethora of deciduous trees, a spectacle to which Eucalypt Mist contributes its fair share thanks to its large garden full of lovely old trees.
The property is in the heart of town and counts among its many attributes exclusivity, given that either a couple or group of four will be the only guests at a given time. Hosts Helen and Wally Wabbis have created an elegant guest refuge upstairs in their modern home that has a light-filled bedroom, private sitting room and ensuite. Wander downstairs in the morning and a hearty breakfast awaits on the balcony overlooking gardens, which are regularly visited by local birdlife.
Bright is a gourmet magnet with restaurants, shops and nearby wineries. Outdoor activities such as bushwalking, bike riding and horse riding abound, and the town's position on the Great Alpine Road puts it close to the snowfields in one direction or Beechworth and Milawa in the other. Location: 312km or four hours northeast of Melbourne. Melway 922 F9. HEMA RA 49 E9.
Facilities: One bedroom with private bathroom, sitting room, balcony, AC; second bedroom available for two couples travelling together and sharing one bathroom. Full breakfast served.
