Colours change with the seasons more noticeably in the high country – whether it is of the rolling pastures, vineyard and trees among which Buttercup Cottage so nicely nestles, or the not-so-distant peaks of Mt Buller and Mt Stirling, snow crested in winter. However crisp the air outside, you'll be snug by the fireside or in the corner spa of the cosy cottage, which was built 10 years ago using local stone.
Or you may prefer the self-contained private apartment by the main house, which is comfortably furnished in colonial style, with a wisteria-wreathed verandah that has lovely rural views. Whichever you choose, you'll find complimentary treats and port, and you can order full breakfast hampers for a small charge.
This is a splendid base for touring and outdoor activities, from catching and releasing a trout in Buttercup Cottage's ornamental lake to bush-walking, horse-riding, fly-fishing or river rafting excursions.  Just ask your helpful hosts to make suggestions or arrangements.
