Athlone is an idyllic, 300-acre slice of country Victoria, offering privacy and stunning views. Each of the property's three gorgeous cottages has vistas of rolling hills and a picturesque dam. And being just outside Alexandra means that there is plenty to do including day trips to the snow and Lake Eildon.
But don't be surprised if you just want to stay put. You can try your hand at fly-fishing (tuition is available), go for a swim in the pool or have a game of tennis – all perfect for building up an appetite. Which is no problem because Athlone provides impromptu meals from the nearby Ruffy Produce Store. If you do venture out, there are local wineries to explore and the highly recommended Tea Rooms at Yarck (owned by Pietro Porcu of the renowned South Yarra restaurant Da Noi).
 Families and friends travelling together should choose the two-bedroom cottages whereas couples will love the newer studio with its vibrant blue corrugated-iron walls, finished in cool whites and soothing blues. Whichever you choose, kick back and simply enjoy living here – for a little while at least.
