If you haven't yet discovered Sarsfield, it's a quiet little spot not far from Bairnsdale and Bruthen, and here you will find Stringybark Cottages – the epitome of Australian country seclusion and relaxation. If you're up for a walk Pip the kelpie can act as your guide through three acres of gardens which segue into farmland and bush that is home to wombats, deer and kangaroos. Yes, it is peaceful, but there's plenty happening.
The cottages are gorgeous: the deceptively simple architecture (with just the cutest verandah you've ever seen) conceals any number of comforts including spacious lounge and dining areas, deep beds, fluffy doonas and a fridge full of brekkie provisions. Stringybark generates its own wind and solar power for a big eco-tick, yet modern facilities are all there.
 Families or friends travelling together will love the two-bedroom Peppermint Gum and Blue Gum cottages. Couples looking for a hidden, romantic getaway are not forgotten and should choose the one-bedroom Gumnut and Sugar Gum cottages – we love their deep soaking baths, double showers and log fires.
