At Anchorage B&B you really can be away with the birds, looking out from your secluded hideaway among the treetops above beautiful Chinamans Creek, a bushland estuary of Bancroft Bay bobbing with pleasure craft and fishing boats. It's an idyllic spot, just a pleasant waterside stroll to Metung, the prettiest village on the Gippsland Lakes.
The two-storey, purpose-built timber building with floor-to-ceiling windows has been expertly sited and cleverly designed to be close to nature. Each of the spacious, lower-level guest rooms has a private entrance and opens onto a patio garden overlooking the bay and creek. Upstairs are the bright and airy guest lounge and dining room – furnished in fine contemporary style – which have even better views of Bancroft Bay.
Host Tricia Wain takes pride in ensuring her guests feel comfortable and relaxed, and she serves up a memorable breakfast. Wander to the village for coffee, lunch or dinner, hire a boat or arrange a cruise on the lake for fishing or sightseeing. Also beckoning are the attractions of Lakes Entrance, Paynesville, Raymond Island and other spots on the aquatic wonderland of the Gippsland Lakes and Ninety Mile Beach. Location: On Chinamans Creek, Metung. 315km or 3.5 hours east of Melbourne. Melway 929 B5. HEMA RA 50 E7.
Facilities: Two ensuite queen bedrooms (connecting), guest lounge/dining room, RC AC, decks. Full breakfast served. Visit this property's website
