If Tottie's sounds a tad twee, don't be misled. This is a strikingly contemporary, architect-designed house on a bush-clad hillside above the seaside village of Wye River where the Otway Ranges reach down to the Bass Strait coast. It's been planned and fitted out to appeal equally to a couple looking for a secluded holiday house or a family with kids who need to be entertained indoors or out.
The windows, balconies and the polished timber-floor, split-level, open-plan living areas have been angled to impart a sensation of being immersed in the bush and sea-scented environment. There's sleeping room for six, and the child-friendly facilities range from a porta-cot, high chair and child gate. And kids of all ages will love the PlayStation 2 (with games), paddle boards for the beach, wide-screen television and heaps of books.
For supplies and refreshments, wander down to the general store, popular Rookery Nook pub and new Fat Cow cafe for breakfast and good coffee.
