Elliminook is far more than just a great place to stay. Hosts Jill and Peter Falkiner have turned this charming 19th century homestead into a gallery of antiques and paintings, which go so well with the shady verandah, sun-filled courtyards and gracious gardens. It's everyone's dream country house, with glowing Baltic pine floors and weathered red brick walls.
Guests are treated to an elegant lounge room with an open fire for the colder months. But a great place to start the day is in the dining room, where Jill serves a full breakfast replete with goodies sourced from the garden such as rhubarb, nectarines and quinces. You can spend the day in Elliminook's established gardens, play tennis, croquet and boules or explore the sights of Birregurra and Lorne or venture on to the Great Ocean Road's beaches and beyond.
 The four bedrooms have been carefully decorated to retain their period features and glow with warmth and comfort. The larger Bromfield Room – with its original exposed bricks, old baker's oven and open fire place (and, of course, air-conditioning) – is arguably the pick. But all the rooms are equally welcoming.
