Welch's on Wildflower is the closest traditional B&B to Halls Gap and offers a warm welcome, thanks largely to its hosts Graeme and Pauline who have been in the area for more than 10 years. This spectacular house celebrates its surrounding views, especially from the suite occupying the entire octagonal upper floor, giving a 360-degree panorama.
The impeccable four-acre garden is a delight, with abundant native plantings including some rare local flora. That explains why the myriad local bird life love the place, judging by the morning choral performance. And morning means it must be time for a real event at Welch's: breakfast. Hot dishes vary each day and might include scrambled eggs with devilled mushrooms or corn fritters with slow-roasted roma tomatoes from the garden.
 But we loved the evening best of all. Ask Graeme or Pauline about dinner before arriving and then ready yourself for a treat. The pre-dinner drinks and meal can either be shared sociably with your fellow guests or taken privately as an intimate romantic appetiser to the evening ahead.
