For an experience in environmentally conscious and sustainable living in harmony with nature, these unique eco-lodges are a revelation. Secluded in 100 acres of virgin bushland adjoining national parkland, walking tracks and golf courses in the Southern Grampians, they have been strikingly designed to embody a philosophy, not just a bunch of buildings in the bush.
Here you can indulge yourself but leave a tiny carbon footprint. The award-winning tree and loft houses have been built using local materials such as sandstone and red gum, and are designed to minimise summer heat and maximise winter sunshine; electricity is generated by solar panels; rain water is collected from the roofs; evaporative cooling and slow-combustion heaters minimise energy use and emissions; and flushing composting toilets limit waste.
 The property is a Trust for Nature protected habitat for 200 species of birds in the stringybark canopy, under which grass trees, hakeas and rare orchids flourish, and kangaroos, wallabies and echidnas roam. For food and drink, Dunkeld is only six kilometres away.
