A weekend at Lyre Bird Hill Winery and Guest House is never boring. Winemaker Owen is out working on the next vintage, Robyn is probably in the kitchen putting together a Saturday night feast and guests … well, guests have it a bit easier. There's the option of doing not much more than wandering the huge, rose-filled gardens or sitting outside on a glorious Gippsland afternoon with a glass of Lyre Bird Hill pinot or riesling. But you might be tempted by a trip to Wilsons Promontory, or a bike ride up the nearby Great Southern Rail Trail.
One thing we can heartily recommend is to take advantage of the dinner option (especially if you're with a group of friends), because Robyn's locally based menus, usually including Gippsland lamb or beef, are sensational. And there's never a problem matching wines to food. A big brekkie in the morning and another busy day awaits – or maybe not.
 To complete this classic Australian experience, choose from three tranquil ensuite rooms with window walls overlooking the garden.
