If it wasn't for the calling of birds and the occasional thump of a wallaby outside one of Lochiel's unashamedly contemporary cottages, it would be easy to believe you were inside a funky inner-city townhouse instead of being nestled high among the trees just next door to Olinda with its restaurants, cafes and galleries.
The views, however, give the game away because each part of these stunning, three-level stone and timber cottages has been designed to draw the forest canopy inwards – even from the double spas in the bathrooms – or there are balconies on the upper bedroom or lower lounge levels that also enjoy views of Lochiel's four acres.
Inside, it's a beautifully balanced blend of warmth from features such as glowing  floorboards and wood fires, to the high-tech indulgence of the large-screen entertainment system. Light-filled, modern and designed for couples, the cottages are complemented by the original Lochiel three-bedroom house (with sensational outdoor spa) designed for small groups of friends.
