Although there is a windmill, and often ducks on the dam, you do have to look to the surnames of hosts Ada Milley and Prue Walduck to discover how this totally charming country B&B got its title. As a matter of fact, MillDuck is also an alpaca farm, and the two private and almost impossibly cute units are built with thickly insulated walls made from straw bales. That's probably enough clues for now …
What's in no dispute is the totally re-energising ambience of the units – something to do with their warm colours and open-air feeling, showcasing uninterrupted views of the countryside and distant mountains from MillDuck's elevated position. Each has its own private entrance leading into a living area with wood fire, a double spa and a bed tucked in the corner with magnificent views.
 There is a private brick-paved courtyard outside one unit and plenty of room to roam on the 35-acre property chock full of rustic charm. The gardens are dotted with sculptures, and you can find out whether alpacas really do enjoy a scratch behind the ears. Maldon, Castlemaine and Bendigo are nearby, but MillDuck has everything you'll need for a relaxing stay – including a late checkout.
