Don't be fooled by the self-deprecating name because if this is a hut, the Taj Mahal is a marble bungalow. This purpose-built, two-bedroom country getaway is replete with all the necessary luxuries. But it is the position that we love: high on a grassy hill, in the middle of a sheep farm, with no other civilisation in sight. The views are glorious and the privacy absolute.
Hut on the Hill invites you to just simply relax. It is set in 40 acres of grazing land, about 15 minutes' drive from Heathcote and near to plenty of great wineries. The light-filled living area has a timber-lined cathedral ceiling, a wood heater and deep leather couches, which beg you to kick back, chat or read the afternoon away. Outside, the deck has an in-built Swimspa pool and guests are welcome to walk the property (say “Hi!” to an alpaca guarding the sheep).
 Home cooks will love the stainless steel country kitchen or the gas-fired barbecue. But nothing compares with the two coolly elegant bedrooms, with their sun or star-lit views across fields and spa-equipped bathroom. Some hut.
