You don't have to be an incurable romantic or have gourmet tastebuds to fall in love with Oakdene, but it sure does help. Featuring vibrant colours, a real sense of adventure and the tantalising prospect of an award-winning restaurant, Oakdene has the added benefit of being set in its own vineyard – so add fabulous views and fine wine to the list of attributes.
The three guest rooms have their own character, from the spacious Water Room (with vineyard views and a corrugated-iron water tank cleverly converted into an ensuite bathroom) to the cosy Attic Room. But the favourite has to be Marilyn's Room, where bold pinks, oranges and blacks are juxtaposed with the homestead's high ceilings and sash windows. The room features a sleigh bed and even the bathroom holds surprises – plus there's a tribute to Ms Monroe.
 Chef Marty Chichester has helped turn Oakdene's marvellous indoor-outdoor restaurant into an epicurean destination in itself, and the cellar door is open for tasting the property's chardonnay, shiraz and pinot noir wines. It's the icing on the cake for a very funky gourmet getaway.
