This cluster of seaside villas represents an unusual war memorial. Each is named for one of the Apollo Bay fishermen who risked their lives to rescue the crew of the American ship City of Rayville sunk by a German raider-laid mine off Cape Otway in 1940. One of these brave men, father of the property's present owner, lived in what is now the on-site manager's house, as commemorated by a plaque.
That's history; what counts now is that these brightly modern, blue-grey weatherboard boat houses' and luxurious new penthouse are conveniently situated and perfectly equipped for a relaxing weekend or, better still, an extended holiday on the coast. All are self-catering, but that's no hardship, as the many shops, cafes, restaurants and pubs of Apollo Bay are within walking distance. So are the golf course, swimming beach, boat harbour and ocean walks.
