Southern Tasmania
Hobart is a natural starting point for a tour of Southern Tasmania - and there is plenty to see. Historic Richmond (20 minutes away) is an historic, classified town which also happens to be the most interesting colonial-era village in Tasmania. About an hour away is Australian's most infamous penal settlement, Port Arthur (allow plenty of time to wander the ruins). South of Hobart is a maze of quiet coves and villages with plenty to do in its various National Parks. And just 35 minutes northwest of Hobart (on the Strahan road) brings you to New Norfolk - a riverside town village with an English atmosphere and a relaxed pace.
