Dorothy and Daniel Williams pride themselves on providing guests with great food and a relaxing experience – and we are happy to confirm that they do. Cradle Chalet is nestled in 18 acres of private wilderness, just down the road from Cradle Mountain. It is rather like a tiny village with four timber chalets, four suites and a central lodge and restaurant, where Daniel weaves his culinary magic.
Dedicated to using the finest local ingredients (from ocean trout to Tasmanian pasture-fed beef and some brilliant desserts), Daniel knows how to tempt and satisfy sophisticated palates. The accommodation is equally good, with open-plan suites and chalets that are replete with antique-style queen beds, private verandahs offering quiet bushland views, and plenty of unobtrusive attention to detail.
 The owners are passionate about the local area and can direct guests towards hidden gems including the best chocolate shop, cheeseries and honey producers. This is a wilderness experience elevated to the realm of highly civilised living.
Location: 70km or one hour southwest of Devonport; 1.5 hours west of Launceston. HEMA RA 60 F6.
